Glasgow MSP Calls For
End To Stock Transfer Uncertainty
Motion lodged in Scottish Parliament
Glasgow MSP and Local Government Committee member Ms Sandra White has lodged
a motion for debate (see below) in Parliament, it calls on the Scottish and
UK Governments to end the uncertainty over the proposed housing stock transfer,
by immediately writing off Glasgow's housing debt and making available the
promised investment in Glasgow's housing. Ms White said:
"Glasgow's tenants have waited far too long for housing in the city to be upgraded to a decent standard. Years of mismanagement by local and national Government has been compounded by the starving of investment whilst the city council and Government has prevaricated over the process.
"What we need is clear and decisive action to end this uncertainty. I call on the Government to write off the debt immediately and make available now, resources allocated by the Scottish Government. The tenants in Glasgow must be allowed to make a decision in the ballot based purely on the merits of the proposal. The debt must be written off and desperately needed investment made available irrespective of whether the transfer goes ahead."
*S1M-2296# Ms Sandra White: Glasgow Housing Stock Transfer-That the Parliament notes the continuing uncertainty over the proposals for the wholesale transfer of Glasgow City Council's housing stock; further notes the continuing uncertainty over the date of the ballot of tenants on the housing stock transfer proposals, and believes that in order to remove the uncertainty and to assist the tenants of Glasgow City Council to make a balanced decision based on the merits of the housing stock transfer proposal Her Majesty's Government should immediately write off Glasgow's housing debt and the Scottish Executive should make available resources to improve Glasgow's housing stock.
