Glasgow City Council Elections, 1st May 2003

Scotstoun Ward - SHEILA ROBERTS

Sheila, a school teacher and native Glaswegian, lives in the constituency. She believes it is time for change: for a city that responds to the needs of the ordinary people, who want a successful, enterprising city that is clean, caring and run on democratic lines.

 

Victoria Park Ward - Elizabeth Quinn

Liz has lived in Glasgow all her life. She is Child Behaviour Specialist and a former headteacher in Special Education. If Liz is elected she will involve herself in all local issues - housing, community policing, fighting drugs and vandalism. “I will work for the people of Victoria Park to improve local amenities and housing conditions.”

 

Hayburn Ward - DUNCAN ROSS

Duncan is 39 years old and lives in Kelvin constituency with his wife and two young children. He is a Senior Lecturer in Economic History at the University of Glasgow, and was educated at the University of Glasgow and the London School of Economics.
"Only with independence can the people of Scotland take responsibility for their own country and their own actions: only by removing the dead hand of the Labour Party from national and local politics will we be able to Release Our Potential."

 

Hyndland Ward - GEORGE ROBERTS

George Roberts lives in Hyndland and is by profession a chartered civil engineer thus bringing detailed technical knowledge to many council issues overseen by the council. As councillor he would work energetically on behalf of the people of Hyndland.

 

Partick Ward - KENNY McLEAN

Local man Kenny McLean is from Partick. Originally living in White Street, he now lives in Fordyce Street. Kenny was educated at Hyndland Secondary School and Glasgow University where he graduated with an Honours Degree in Politics and History. Active in local politics and community groups for some time he is currently vice-chair of Partick Community Council. Kenny is the Parliamentary Assistant to Sandra White and is a member of the NUJ.

 

Hillhead - PATRICK GRADY

Patrick Grady, 23, brings experience and energy to Hillhead. Having lived in Gibson Street as a student, he now works in the West End for a major international aid agency. As President of Strathclyde Union, Patrick represented over 16,000 students, and is well placed to bring the diverse voices of Hillhead's community to Glasgow City Council.

Kelvingrove Ward - JENNIFER DUNN

Jennifer Dunn, 21, brings youth and enthusiasm to Kelvingrove. A final-year student at Strathclyde University, Jennifer is experienced in student and local politics, and actively campaigned against the war in Iraq. She believes that Glasgow must dump the corrupt New Labour to fulfil its potential, and that only independence can solve Scotland’s problems.

 

Anderston Ward - MOIRA BROWN

Moira Brown brings a wealth of life experience and commitment to Anderston community where she lives. She trained in Glasgow Roayal Infirmary where she worked as a staff nurse. Later in teaching she served in the capacity of primary, remedial and finally as head teacher before she retired. Forty six years political activist, ten years community councillor. Actively involve3d in a variety of mental health issues.

 

Merchant City Ward - CRAIG MACKAY

Craig Mackay, 26, lives locally and has been involved with local politics for the past nine years. He is a recent architecture graduate from Strathclyde University, where he served on the Students Representative Council. Craig believes that only with Scottish Independence can we rid Glasgow of poverty, damp housing and poor health.
